Ensure the Healthy Weight of Your Mastiff

The Mastiff dog has a number of varieties. Names such as American Tibetan Mastiff are becoming known but most of these Mastiff varieties really came from the English Mastiff. Most are just hybrids. The American Mastiff for example was developed to lessen the drooling of English Mastiffs. The original Mastiff dog was combined with the Anatolian Mastiff and the result was successful. The drooling indeed was lessened.

The Mastiff, only slightly shorter than the Wolfhound and the Great Dane, is one of the heaviest dogs in the world. The Mastiff is built with heavy bones and muscles. During the first 12 months, the Mastiff grows incredibly fast but does not mature completely until the third or fourth year. With its tall height and heavy weight, it could not help create an air of dignity fit for royalty. They are generally watchful of strangers and protective of the family that owns them, making them one of the best guard dogs anyone can have.

Their weight might be a disadvantage for travelers but since they are strong and heavy they are considered to be one of the best guard dogs of all dog breeds. Their strength largely depends on their weight so the Mastiff’s weight should be monitored with great care.

It is suggested for owners to have their own Mastiff Puppy Healthy Weight chart. With this, owners could determine if their Mastiff puppy is developing wonderfully. A Mastiff at 4 weeks should already have a Mastiff Puppy Healthy Weight of 15 pounds for males and 13 pounds for females. At the end of the first year, your Mastiff should already weigh 175 pounds for males and 120 pounds for girls. After three or four years, your Mastiff will reach its full height and weight.

In conclusion, the heavier Mastiffs are, the better protectors they become. So it is extremely important to make sure that your pet has a Mastiff Puppy Healthy Weight.
